May/June2018

Now that I've finished my Multimedia & Web Development Course at Cavan Institute, I've the summer to work on some video and photography projects I have in mind. It's been a very busy few months, with final assignments, and exams at the end of May. I always gave myself enough time to complete college work.

I was very happy to have been successful in the Aca exam, for Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Premiere Pro. An Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) credential certifies that individuals have the skills to plan, design, build and maintain effective communications using different forms of digital media.

At times I might of felt slightly stressed, but everything worked out in the end. So far since I've had free time I've been super busy. On the 19th of May this year I was delighted to receive my Licentiate distinction, with the Irish Photographic Federation. Applicants put forward a panel of ten prints, which are assessed by a panel of experienced photographers. It was a great day for Breffni Photography Club, with myself, Sonal Thompson & Michael Mc Nulty all receiving our Licentiate.

Below was my succesful Licentiate panel,I submitted on the day. I received help and advice, from the members at Breffni Photography Club, for which I'm extremely grateful for.

Receiving my Licentiate Distinction Certificate & Pin at the May 2018 distinction sitting in Mullingar, with the Irish Photographic Federation, from Dominic Reddin (IPF President).

The good luck continued in May when I received exciting news that I was chosen as one of 3 finalists on the Tv3 Ireland Am camera club competition, with this photo.

The months theme was water, so I entered in some shots I liked. Got the phone call to say I'd be live on air on Tv3 roughly between 10.05 to 10.10am on Monday the 28th of May. Straight away I could feel the butterflies in the stomach, but I was also very excited at the same time. I was actually on it 3 years previously in May 2015 also. On the day I didn't win the top prize, but it was an amazing experience. I felt pretty relaxed and at ease in front of the camera, maybe because I knew what to expect. The support and well wishes from friends and family was overwhelming.

In between all of this I'm still snapping away with my photography, any chance I can get. The recent spell of amazing weather has put the camera into overdrive, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I've also applied for some internships for the summer months. Fingers crossed I hear some good news in the coming weeks. I recently also received my results from the Multimedia course I mentioned at the beginning. I was shocked to see I received top marks for all 9 modules I completed. I think a well deserved holiday is on the cards soon, where to I'm thinking. Looking forward to the next few exciting months, to see whats in store. Check out some of my recent work I've completed.

Until next time..........

Summer Months

Hey guys, I was reading some of my past blog posts, and I just realized it's been over 3 months since I last posted one. Summer has come and gone so quickly, too quick in fact. To be honest we did get 2/3 weeks of amazing sunshine, so I'm not complaining. So much happened over the past couple of months. As always I've been super busy with my trusty Nikon camera. I took so many new photos, and recorded some new video footage also. In May I finished my Multimedia & Web Development course at  Cavan Institute . It was an amazing 2 years, and to my surprise I received a full 9 distinctions on all my modules, which I was extremely happy with. Onto the next chapter, which in the new year, I'm hoping to start a part time film & Television course in Dublin city...... excited.  I purchased a new Sigma 70-210 macro lens way back at the start of the year also, but I only properly had the chance to test it out during the summer. I'm not gonna lie, macro is somet

Photoshop and Lightroom Edits

As I have a massive interest in photography, the software and applications I use are just as important as the equipment itself. In my opinion r arely do my photos come out of the camera exactly as I had envisioned. So before uploading to my various social medias, I put my photos through the post processing phase. This is where my raw photos are enhanced, adjusted, toned, and sharpened to give me the final image I wanted to deliver.   The big question is: Photoshop vs Lightroom. The most widely used, and most popular has undoubtedly been Adobe Photoshop, since its first version’s release in 1990. The software has been used by amateurs and professionals alike year after year, and is considered an essential part of most photographer’s editing process. I myself have both programs, and use each equally to edit my photography.  Lets start with Photoshop first With Adobe Photoshop, you can quickly and easily import photos into the software. Once imported, everythin

Abandoned Places Photography

I love to explore many old and abandoned houses, and buildings, here in Ireland. To go into the dark of these abandoned places, hoping to uncover their secrets. Among the cobwebs and peeling paint that, I search for objects forgotten by time.  My aim is to show these places among the dust, and show it's beauty, a beauty to some, especially me.  By visiting these places, and photographing them, i hope to preserve the last breath of mystery and nostalgia that surrounds them. Many would think twice before stepping foot into these sometimes eerie, crumbling buildings, to me they have a subtle allure. I don't know why i have such a love with these places. I’ve been trying to visit as many abandoned places as possible. There is something enticing about abandoned places. You can feel the past in such places, they have a peculiar smell, a particular mood, and a distinct charm. Nature is inevitably reclaiming them ba
